On 16th August 2022, The Bureau of the Federation International de Football Association (FIFA) Council has decided to suspend the All India Football Federation (AIFF) with immediate effect due to third-party interference, which is a violation of FIFA’s statutes.

Highlights

  • Following the suspension, FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022 which is scheduled to be held in India on 11-30 October 2022, cannot be held in India as planned.
  • The suspension will be lifted after an order to set up a committee of administrators to assume the powers of the AIFF Executive Committee have been repealed and the AIFF administration regains full control of the AIFF’s daily affairs.
  • Other countries banned by FIFA over 3rd party influence includes Iraq(2008) Nigeria(2014), Guatemala(2016), Kuwait & Indonesia(2015), Pakistan(2017 & 2021) and Kenya (2022).
